Duty to God Program Ideas

As we've worked with the ward young men programs in our stake, we've collected some great ideas we want to share with you.  We hope some of these will help you strengthen this great program in your own quorums.

(1) Do it yourself: have every member of your young men presidency work on the Duty to God program themselves.  Take a little time in each of your ward YM presidency meetings to have presidency members Share what they are doing for their own program and what their goals are.

(2) Tracking: although the program and its goals are determined and conducted on an individual level, it helps the young men, their families, and their quorum leaders and adult advisors to have an idea of progress to be able to support the young men in their efforts.  There are a number of ways this can be done, but we recommend you look at and consider using the etrailtoeagle.com website for this purpose. The Duty to God tools at this site are free.  The scouting tracking tools are listed at $20/year for the whole ward.

(3) Share every chance you get: use any and every opportunity available to discuss and Share.  Quorum meetings, weekday activities, priesthood opening exercises, sacrament meeting talks, campouts, family home evenings all give opportunities to share what's being learned and accomplished by each young man in their Duty to God progress.

(4) Mentoring: In addition to the group settings, the Duty to God program can be experienced in a deep, meaningful way by having regular meetings and discussions with a mentor.  Typically this would be best done with a parent - ideally a Melchizedek Priesthood holding father - but could be done with an adult priesthood advisor in the right setting (such as with permission in their home with other family members present).  Scriptures can be discussed, learning reviewed, with Duty to God goals becoming the subjects to prompt spiritual discussions.

(5) Inspire parents: So much of this program fits well with a Gospel-centered home.  Any number of venues might be used to help parents understand the program and inspire them to help and encourage their young man in their Duty to God progress.

(6) Recognize efforts: Recognition of progress and success in quorum, in priesthood opening exercises, and in other settings and ways helps encourage the young men and those who support them.
